Debussy Cello Sonata from First Mondays at Jordan Hall, Oct 3, 2022
When I play for an audience I can usually show what I feel, although often not “perfectly”. But what’s there is the “moment” and the sense of communication.
This performance is just like that - it catches what I want to say and I prefer it to playing for a microphone on an empty stage.
But when I listened to its blemishes I thought we should try it the other way...
The session yielded a “perfect” performance, but it doesn’t have immediacy. That doesn’t satisfy me, so I hope you will accept the “moment”.
Thanks,
Larry
